Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.
An essential part of faith formation at the college is the application of Catholic social teaching to student and staff experiences. We are called to “Love tenderly, act justly and walk humbly”.
The Annual Vinnies Winter Sleepout is a community event for all year groups that raises awareness of the plight of homelessness in Australia. The numerous youth ministry events with Mary MacKillop Catholic College during the Lenten and Advent seasons are reminders to the Fairfield community to put their ‘faith in action’.
The college also works with and fundraises for Caritas, farmers, the Vinnies Christmas Appeal and the Delany Foundation. These are only successful via a collaborative approach to the decision-making processes regarding outreach Programs and the Breastplates group at the college.
